Whether you're a fresh 12th-pass graduate or someone who's been prepping for a while, this is one of those notifications worth blocking your calendar for. Let's break it down — no jargon, just what you actually need to know.
What's Actually on Offer
SSC CHSL 2026 is recruiting for three main roles:
Lower Division Clerk (LDC)
Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA)
Data Entry Operator (DEO / DEO Grade 'A')
These posts sit across a wide spread of Central Government ministries, departments, constitutional bodies, statutory bodies, and tribunals — so the placement possibilities are genuinely broad. Keep in mind the vacancy count is tentative for now; SSC typically firms up the post-wise and category-wise breakdown a little later in the process.
The Dates You Cannot Afford to Forget
A quick heads-up: SSC hasn't announced the Tier-I and Tier-II exam dates yet — those will come in a separate notice, so don't lock in travel plans just yet. Given SSC's current exam calendar is packed with other ongoing recruitments, many candidates are penciling in early 2027 as a realistic window for Tier-I, though nothing is official until SSC says so.
Are You Eligible? Here's the Checklist
Education:
For LDC, JSA, and most DEO posts — a pass in Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent from a recognized board works. Even if you're still waiting on your Class 12 results, you're in the running as long as they're declared by 7th October 2026.
For DEO posts in specific ministries — you'll need Class 12 in the Science stream with Mathematics.
Age Limit (as on 1st August 2026):
18 to 27 years — meaning you should be born between 2nd August 1999 and 1st August 2008.
Relaxation applies: +5 years for SC/ST, +3 years for OBC, and +10 years for PwBD candidates.
What Will It Cost You?
UR / OBC / EWS (Male) candidates: ₹100
Women, SC, ST, PwBD & Ex-Servicemen: Completely exempted

Three Rule Changes That Are Actually a Big Deal This Year
SSC has tightened up a few things in the application process, and these matter more than they might sound:
No more uploading old photos. The portal now requires a live photo capture directly through your webcam or mobile browser, with proper eye-level alignment and lighting. Get your lighting sorted before you sit down to apply.
Aadhaar-based OTR is the new standard. One-Time Registration through Aadhaar authentication speeds up verification — but note that OTR profiles from the older SSC portal won't carry over. You'll need to register fresh.
Mangal Font only for Hindi typing. If you're opting for the Hindi typing skill test, make sure you're practicing exclusively in Mangal Font — anything else could cost you during the actual test.
How the Selection Process Works
Tier-I (Computer-Based Test):
100 objective questions worth 200 marks
60-minute duration, with 15-minute sectional timers per subject — so pacing across sections matters as much as accuracy
Tier-II (CBT + Typing/Skill Test):
Sections I & II cover Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning, English, and General Awareness
Sections III & IV bring in a mandatory Computer Knowledge Test along with the Typing/Skill Test
