Avatar 2 has been released across the country and the feedback has been excellent so far at the box office. However, there’s a clear difference between the northern parts and southern parts of India as the film is showing excellent response in the latter.
Avatar: The Way of Water is off to a big start at the Indian box office, with early estimates putting the first-day number over Rs. 35 crores net, which will be the second-highest opening day ever for Hollywood, just behind Avengers: Endgame. These numbers can rise up to Rs. 38 crores when the actuals arrive, though Rs. 40 crores seem mostly out of reach at this moment. James Cameron's sequel to the highest-grossing movie in the world, is the widest release ever for Hollywood in India, playing at nearly 4000 screens.
Even before the release, North India bookings were a shock to Avatar 2 as the bookings were pretty low while south India bookings were very good. Before the release, everyone expected the film will open big in every territory in India and also create a new milestone for Hollywood movies.
But now the film is looking at an opening of 40 Crores net and Avengers Endgame has 50 Cr+ opening in India. It looks like it is impossible for Avatar 2 to beat the openings of Endgame, even if the night shows have Extraordinary bookings.
Avatar The Way of Water is a sequel to James Cameron’s Avatar which was released way back in 2009. Considering the sequel factor and the tremendous goodwill of the first part, the excitement is at its peak for part 2 in the audience. The hype is clearly getting translated into numbers. The advance booking of the film has crossed the 20 crore mark on day 1.
Avatar 2 has registered an average occupancy of 30-35% across the country. It also includes reports from the 2D version, which is performing low. On the other hand, 3D,4DX, and IMAX versions are showing superb responses.
Considering a huge screen count of, more than 3800, the occupancy is promising, and the response will only get better in the evening shows with positive WOM.
